Scruffy

Scruffy, the sanctuary’s beloved barn cat, arrived in true cat fashion—completely unannounced. One morning in 2018, he simply appeared in the barn like he owned the place, as if delivered by the mysterious “universal cat distribution system.” With his scruffy fur and confident attitude, it didn’t take long for everyone to realize he had no plans to leave—and no one wanted him to.

Now a fixture of daily life at the sanctuary, Scruffy is the self-appointed supervisor of barn chores. He insists on leading the way, flopping dramatically in front of your feet, waiting for you to step around him, then trotting ahead to repeat the process. Friendly with every creature he meets—including a porcupine (though he learned that lesson the hard way)—Scruffy brings equal parts comedy and comfort to everyone around him. He’ll try to swipe the dog’s food if you’re not looking, but with a face like his, it’s hard to stay mad. Scruffy may have shown up out of nowhere, but he’s exactly where he belongs.
