Sprout may be small, but his spirit is larger than life. Rescued in January 2025 after suffering a traumatic spinal injury, this little goat’s story is nothing short of remarkable. He was found unable to walk or use his back legs, and his owners in Southern Indiana knew he needed more specialized care—so they reached out. After being picked up and rushed to Purdue for an MRI, the diagnosis was serious: a fractured vertebra and a severe spinal infection. With injectable antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and round-the-clock love, Sprout’s long road to recovery began.
Despite everything, Sprout lives with a joy that’s impossible to miss. He zips around in his tiny wheelchair, follows Sara from room to room, and insists she always stay within eyesight. He lives indoors, wears diapers, and is getting ready to start physical therapy soon—none of which has dampened his spunky, energetic personality. He’s unfazed by dogs or other animals, totally in love with grain and hay, and has a hilarious obsession with sucking on water bottles like a baby. Even though a recent checkup showed some progression in his disease, his veterinary team is confident: Sprout is thriving. And from the way he tackles each day—with zest, grit, and a goat-sized dose of determination—it’s clear they’re right.
