Billy and Rose

Billy and Rose came to the sanctuary in December 2023 after being rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding and neglect case. Trapped in a tiny, overcrowded pen with no shelter and no relief, they were just two of many animals seized by animal control. Billy, though rough around the edges, was open to human kindness. Rose, on the other hand, had never known what it meant to be touched with care—completely feral, terrified, and trembling at the sight of people.

With gentle patience, hoof trims, and proper nourishment, the healing began. Slowly but surely, Rose started to let her guard down, finding peace in her very own quiet stall, away from the chaos she once knew. These days, Billy keeps himself entertained for hours playing with gate chains in his stall, happily clinking and clanking away like it’s his personal hobby. Rose still prefers a low-key life, but she’s made huge strides—and now cuddles daily with a donated teddy bear that has become her emotional support buddy. Though she’s still learning to trust, she’s come a long way thanks to slow introductions, goat treats, and a safe space to just be. Together, Billy and Rose remind everyone at the sanctuary that healing looks different for everyone—and sometimes, it involves chains, teddy bears, and a whole lot of compassion.
